On January 8, 2014, it became known that Mikhail Leontiev would be appointed Presidential Advisor "Rosneft" in the rank of Vice President, will oversee the activities of the Department of Information and Advertising.

The media pointed out that there was a long-standing "friendly relationship" between Sechin and Leontiev. According to a source close to the company, PR specialists of this level are always coordinated, emphasizing that this is standard practice for such cases. " If Igor Ivanovich is sure that Mikhail Leontiev will be able to benefit the company, then he, as the president of Rosneft, vouches for this decision", - said a senior official of the presidential administration. At the same time, Mikhail Leontiev remains the host of the "However" program on Channel One.

Political activity

In December 1995, Leontiev, as an independent candidate, ran for the State Duma of the 2nd convocation from the 203rd Cheryomushkinsky constituency in Moscow, but lost the election. Pavel Medvedev.

During the first Chechen war, he was among those who supported the entry of troops into the territory of Chechnya, declaring that he was " a staunch supporter of the forceful solution of problems in Chechnya". Later, during the explosions of residential buildings in Moscow and Volgodonsk, he called for the bombing of Chechnya.

In 2000, during the presidential elections, he declared support for the acting head of state Vladimir Putin.

In 2001, he became a member of the political council of the Eurasian socio-political movement headed by him.

In 2002 he became a member of the party.

In 2002 for statements about the wife of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko Ekaterina Yushchenko (previously she had the surname Chumachenko). The Ukrainian court ordered Leontiev to reimburse 2,500 hryvnias in favor of Yekaterina Yushchenko and within 30 days to refute the false information that he voiced in his Odnako program on April 10, 2001. Leontiev refused to comply with the court decision. Became persona non grata in Ukraine. The ban was later lifted.

In August 2014, he was included in the sanctions list by Ukraine for his position on the war in the East of Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea to Russia.

According to his economic views, he is a radical liberal; according to his political views, he is an ardent anti-communist. He calls himself a dissident. Repeatedly admired Augusto Pinochet.

Leontiev urges Russia to abandon " imperial burden".

In connection with the global economic crisis, he stated that " the only way out of the current crisis is a global war. Who will untie it and how is a purely technical question".

In September 2015, after the speeches of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama stated:

"His speech is such an ideologically conspiratorial gibberish... Everything that Obama said was some kind of semi-diplomatic formats, some old models that he sorted out. In principle, he said nothing, except for one thing - he left the door open. That is, repeating all the American fetishes and ideologemes, he nevertheless said that it is possible to cooperate", - said Leontiev.

"It is difficult to trust him, because it is not clear whether he will be able to realize these ideas of how to act in reality, because so far he has been weak at it.", the journalist said.

In his opinion, Obama's weakness is not that he cannot withstand Putin's pressure, but that he cannot pursue his own policy, which he wants to pursue under the pressure of very powerful American interests.

Leontiev stressed that, unlike Obama, the Russian president spoke clearly and distinctly, his speech was not diplomatic: Putin called a spade a spade.

Scandals

April 2, 2013 Mikhail Leontiev, commenting on the air of the Day TV channel A. Miller about the allegedly unprofitable extraction of "shale gas", with the help of which the Russian "Gazprom" already being squeezed out of the European market, said: " the largest Russian company led by a dangerous lunatic who has turned into a direct threat to national security. It seems that he caught the madness from his Qatari brothers, with whom he tried to arrange a gas alliance. Something must be done about this. I don't know, maybe call a doctor. Vladimir Vladimirovich has already called the doctor once. We need a whole brigade here, a psycho wagon".

Leontiev also said that he does not understand at all on what basis such a company exists, which systematically harms Russian interests.

"Because of their idiotic pricing policy, they are losing Europe, and will continue to lose it. Where did Shtokman go, which was intended for the Americans. It doesn't exist and never will, because it's not needed. There will be no "South Stream" either, and there is no need to fool people's heads, because there is nothing to fill it with", Leontiev said.

Leontiev noted that Gazprom is not interested in shale gas production in Russia, which should be more than enough in the country, but the monopoly is a nightmare for the state, justifying the indecent exorbitant costs in the production of conventional "blue fuel".

"With obscene costs, gas production in Gazprom will soon become unprofitable. Not because gas is expensive to produce, but, roughly speaking, because you need to steal less, at least a little less", the journalist stressed.

"Shale gas production is unprofitable, and shale oil production is much more difficult, but profitable in Mr. Miller's view. This is generally some kind of aberration of consciousness. Just psychosis. It seems to me that what is happening is a direct act of sabotage - arrogant, public - of the presidential decree. Mr. Miller should be hospitalized, and the Gazprom company should be sold to the Americans. If it is so valuable, maybe they will give money for it, after all. And encumbrance in the sale to appoint psychotic Miller. You can also sell Gazprom's media assets there. Because these assets still work for the Americans. Let them pay for them", concluded Leontiev.

It became known yesterday that "Rosneftegaz" notified Federal Property Management Agency on the acquisition of a 0.23% stake in Gazprom for 7 billion rubles. It is reported that the transaction took place in the first half of March. Thus, the state, represented by Rosneftegaz, which is in charge, received full control over the gas monopoly.

Independent observers, commenting on the statements of Mikhail Leontiev, suggested that Alexey Miller, apparently, will lose his post, and his place will be taken by a protege of the closest associate of the President of the Russian Federation Igor Sechin. Ultimately, these predictions did not come true, and Miller remained in his post.

Mikhail Leontiev is considered a heavy drinker and, therefore, often gets into delicate situations. So, on May 7, 2012, Mikhail Leontiev provoked a major international scandal in Odessa. He took part in the concert "Songs of Victory". It was clear that the journalist went on stage not too sober. Leontiev immediately declared that the inhabitants of Ukraine " fucked up the country"... and to get everything back, you need to make the right choice." We need to stop betting on goats and faggots. To change something, you need to vote for the party, - Leontiev announced loudly from the stage.

For his statements, the scandalous journalist was booed by the audience, many of whom came to the concert with their children. By the way, there were city and regional officials among the spectators, none of whom apologized to the inhabitants of Odessa for the behavior of the Russian guest at the concert dedicated to Victory Day. Since the ATV channel broadcast live from this event, thousands of Odessa residents who watched TV became witnesses of this.

On November 12, 2014, when the host of the program Mikhail Leontiev started talking about the association of Ukraine and European Union, a pornographic video was played behind him on the screen of one of the TVs. The footage shows a woman in a top position moving on top of a man who is lying under a blue blanket. The action itself lasts about ten seconds, after what is happening in the studio replaces the journalistic plot. In the video below, the erotic elements start at the 44th second.

Alexey Venediktov, editor-in-chief "Echo of Moscow", in his Instagram actively uploaded photos from Remchukov's birthday. A wave of indignation swept through social networks with such a warm "friendship" of representatives of opposition and pro-government political figures and journalists.

He graduated in 1979 with a degree in Labor Economics. In his student years, he worked as a security guard at the Moscow planetarium, from where he was fired for a brawl arranged by his friends. After receiving higher education Leontiev worked at the Moscow Institute of Economic Problems, where, in his own words, he tried to "deal with the real Soviet economy." In addition to working at the research institute, Leontiev worked as a tutor in history and became interested in applied art. In 1985 he graduated from vocational school No. 86 with a degree in joiner-cabinet worker, but he did not find a permanent job in his specialty. During this period, Leontiev worked as a laborer at the Literary Museum, guarded the dacha-museum of Boris Pasternak in Peredelkino, and continued to tutor.

In 1987, Leontiev began to write analytical articles on sociological topics. In 1989, at the invitation of a friend, he came to the "Experimental Creative Center" headed by Sergey Kurginyan, who was engaged in political science. At the same time, he worked as a freelance correspondent for the Socialist Industry newspaper, but his notes were not published in the newspaper. Leontiev's first journalistic publication appeared without his knowledge in the Riga newspaper Atmoda, after which Leontiev collaborated with it in 1989-1990. In 1989, Leontiev was invited to the political department of the Kommersant newspaper, even before it began to be published on paper, where he went through, by his own admission, "a very useful school." In 1990, Leontiev moved to Nezavisimaya Gazeta, where he headed the department of economics. In 1993 he became the first deputy editor-in-chief of the weekly "Business MN". In the same year, he co-founded the newspaper Segodnya, which was financed by Leonid Nevzlin, Vladimir Gusinsky and Alexander Smolensky. In November 2008, Leontiev's book of the same name was released.

In May 2007, M. Leontiev was appointed editor-in-chief of the business analytical magazine Profile. He left Profile in March 2009. The magazine's publisher Sergei Rodionov claimed that Leontiev's departure led to an increase in the circulation of the publication. During the same period, he collaborated with the magazine Moulin Rouge. Later, answering a question from Ksenia Sobchak regarding the presentation of his creed in this publication, the TV presenter explained:

Since June 2009, together with Channel One, he became the founder of the Odnako magazine, in which, in addition to Leontiev, Evgeny Dodolev and Alexander Nevzorov and other journalists and columnists who previously worked in Profile are published. In 2009, he starred in a small role in Stas Mareev's film True Love.

In the preface to E. Dodolev's book "The View", published in 2011, the beatles of perestroika defined the attitude to the profession:

M. Leontiev is a member of the journalistic Serafim Club, he taught at the non-state Higher School of Management, where the "commissars" of the Nashi movement were trained.

Press Secretary and Vice President of Rosneft

On January 8, 2014, the Kommersant newspaper reported that from January 13, Mikhail Leontyev, who will have to oversee the activities of the information and advertising department, will become an adviser to the president of Rosneft Igor Sechin in the rank of vice president for PR. Prior to Leontiev, this position was held by the singer and composer Alexei Lebedinsky. Sources of the publication indicated that between Sechin and Leontiev there are long-standing "friendly relations." At the same time, Leontiev remained the host of the program "However" on Channel One. On January 14, Rosneft issued a press release, according to which Leontiev works in the company as a press secretary - director of the information and advertising department with the rank of vice president.

In May 2016, Rosneft allocated 170 million rubles for the publication of the Odnako magazine with the wording “Providing a sponsorship contribution for the publication of the Journal (“Odnako. Business and political magazine”) and the provision of information and advertising services” . At the same time, it was reported that in 2016 only one issue of the magazine was published. Politician and shareholder of Rosneft Alexei Navalny in January 2017 (then information about the fact got into the media) said that he would ask the company for the relevant documents, since he “does not like the story at all”. Mikhail Leontiev himself said that the allocated money was spent on the website of the magazine "However", which had "2 million individual visitors at the best time".

In January 2017, Leontiev cursed the journalists of Dozhd and the BBC Russian Service with foul language. Leontiev was irritated by their question about the legality of the use of a car with a special signal by the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin. The press noted that the cheeky style of communication with the media of the press secretary of Rosneft became the subject of criticism many times.

Relations with the Ukrainian authorities

After the journalist became "persona non grata" in Latvia, he was banned from entering (July 14, 2006) and Ukraine. The ban was later lifted, and in September 2007, Mikhail, together with his colleague Yevgeny Dodolev (who acted as a publisher), launched the Russian-language version of the German weekly Der Spiegel (“Der Spiegel-Profile”) in Ukraine, which became a notable event on the Ukrainian media market.

The magazine was launched on the basis that “the quality of content in Ukraine lags far behind Russian requirements”, and it was stated that, in concept, this is more of a political weekly, closer to Newsweek than to the Profile that the Russian reader is used to. The magazine in Russian was published weekly with a circulation of 30,000 copies in Kyiv, Crimea and Eastern Ukraine, while the editorial office was based in Moscow, and a correspondent network was formed in Ukraine. The project was suspended in May 2008, there was an online version of the publication.

In August 2014, Leontiev was included by Ukraine in the sanctions list of Russian journalists.

Socio-political views

In his own words, he was a "dissident". Calls himself a right-wing conservative [ ] .

At the beginning of his publicistic and journalistic career, he adhered to radical liberal views, primarily in the field of economics, which predetermined his opposition to the communists in the 1996 elections and the government headed by Yevgeny Primakov in 1998-1999. Criticized the left ideology. In February 1998, Leontiev became the laureate of the Adam Smith Prize, established by Gaidar "for criticizing liberal politics from the standpoint of liberalism." Leontiev himself called the Gaidar reform "shock therapy under anesthesia" [ ] .

In earlier works, Leontiev also called for the abandonment of the "imperial burden", warning against attempts to restore the "empire".

Leontiev also repeatedly spoke out in support of Augusto Pinochet, whom he considered a consistent, albeit cruel politician. Leontiev believes that Pinochet carried out an exemplary economic reform in Chile, creating "an efficiently functioning social system, built on a truly liberal principle."

He outlined his political creed in 2007 in his article for the almanac "Moulin Rouge":

What does the modern postmodern, the so-called avant-garde, do? Destruction of the idea of compassion. It's good when it is expressed in the form of a grotesque, such a "skit", as does, for example, Tarantino. The banter over the removal of barriers implies their presence. The banter over the removal of Christian cultural taboos is human to some extent. And it means the recognition of the existence of these same taboos. It is worse when no one sees these taboos. When they are no longer in the minds of those who create. And there are no living beings in the minds who do not think about anything at all. Then it's the end of culture. And the end of humanity as a population.

True politics, like culture, can exist only within the framework of taboos. That is why in all well-known novels about politics the theme “ How power destroys a person».

Rosneft spokesman Mikhail Leontiev declined to comment on the Dozhd TV channel for information that appeared on social networks that the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin, still uses a car with a flashing light, although he is not entitled to it by law.

"Please go to the ass. Accept assurances of our unchanging respect," Rosneft spokesman Mikhail Leontiev answered Rain's question about why Sechin received the flasher. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not answer the question whether Vladimir Putin provided a special signal to the head of the state-owned company.

Until 2012, Sechin traveled by car with a special signal as a deputy prime minister. Dozhd failed to find any presidential decree that would give the head of Rosneft the right to use a flasher. All departments whose employees can use flashing lights are listed in the presidential decree "On streamlining the use of special signals," which he signed in May 2012. According to the text of the document, for example, the government is entitled to 32 flashing lights, the presidential administration - 22, the FSB - 207. Rosneft and other state-owned companies are not included in the decree.

Sechin can get around in a car provided not by his company, but by a third-party agency that has the right to a flashing light, the Federal Protective Service, two federal officials told Dozhd. Such decisions are not formalized by public decrees, one of the interlocutors clarified. "We have nothing to do with this," the press service of the FSO told Dozhd and addressed Rosneft on all issues.

"Rain"

The fact that Sechin is moving in a car with a special signal was noticed in December last year by Life journalist Anastasia Kashevarova. According to her, "Sechin left the Kremlin himself at the wheel."
Traditionally, numbers with the ECX series are installed on FSO cars, the federal official notes. The alleged car of the head of Rosneft has just such a series. The Mercedes number published by Kashevarova is Е939КХ77.

The Kremlin correspondent of "Life" Alexander Yunashev told "Rain" that he also repeatedly saw Sechin get into a car with this number. Moreover, according to him, an escort car also follows the head of Rosneft. “Once he got behind the wheel himself, and as soon as he drove off a little, an escort car drove up behind him, if I’m not mistaken, a dark blue Volkswagen. But usually Sechin sits in the back seat of his car, and unlike all officials, he sits not on the right, but on the left, that is, behind the driver. This is the safest place. I once asked him why he does this. He replied that it was a habit from his last job, "says the journalist.

A senior federal official claims intelligence agencies had information that Sechin's life was in danger following the Yukos affair. He needs protection and escort in order to protect himself from the revenge of the former shareholders of the oil company, follows from the words of Dozhd's interlocutor. Because of this, according to his version, the flasher<...>

The heads of all other state-owned companies and corporations do not use flashing lights, it follows from the answers of their press services to Dozhd's questions. A spokesman for the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, said that he used a special signal until the presidential decree in 2012, but after that he lost the privilege. "When the decree came out, we obeyed," Dozhd's interlocutor explained. The press services of Transneft, Sberbank, Russian Railways and Rostec also assured Dozhd that their managers and employees do not drive cars with flashing lights.

January 18, 16:30 Leontiev told BBC journalists that Sechin has the right to a car with a flashing light as "a government official of a certain level."
"By the way, Sechin is the executive secretary of the presidential commission on the fuel and energy complex (fuel and energy complex - Sechin oversaw it when he was deputy prime minister in Putin's government). That is, at least he is a government official of a certain level, who has the right to a flashing light and a special car," - Leontiev answered the BBC's question whether the information of the Dozhd TV channel that Sechin uses a car with a special signal is true.

To a direct question whether Sechin has a flasher, Leontyev refused to answer.

Leontiev reacted emotionally to the call from the BBC correspondent. "What are you asking? Why, why the hell? What does this have to do with the company's activities? [...] Can you imagine the amount of serious information and tasks that the company solves? What are you calling about? Well, let me write a letter to " BBC": guys, you really fucked up. Well, stop picking up shit. […] You know what, go away, I don't want to answer your question," Leontyev said and quit handset.
